“…Rally “Golden Sands” – (“Albena”) is the most prestigious Bulgarian rally. For 32 years it has taken place in Dobrudja, covering a big perimeter of its territory. The first start of the rally was on June 12, 1970 in front of hotel “International” and in December 1972 the rally commission of the International motor sports organization (FIA) of that time approved it as one of the rounds of the European championship. Racing a closed route was brought in for the first time in the whole European championship by the Bulgarian rally (an element present from the first edition of “Golden Sands”)…”

“…In 2001 one of the experts of FIA visited Albena – after a detailed inspection of the route and everything connected to the rally he concluded, that if we wanted to keep the rally we would have to forget about Albena. Selecting and describing the route and segments took months until the most appropriate variant and conditions were selected. So, Borovets – the most popular winter resort in Bulgaria has become the capital of rally “Bulgaria”…”
